Dover Home undergoes Stunning 1st floor Renovation with Open Concept Kitchen

Opening the Floor Plan

Originally, the kitchen was separated from the surrounding living spaces by multiple walls and narrow openings. This layout limited both natural light and interaction between rooms.

During the renovation, walls between the kitchen, dining room, and living room were removed to create the open concept layout the homeowners envisioned. The coat closet between the foyer and kitchen was also removed, further opening the entryway and improving the flow of the space.

Kitchen Design & Features

The newly redesigned kitchen balances warm natural materials with thoughtful functionality.

At the center of the space is a large island finished in Fabuwood Allure Fusion Kona cabinetry, offering generous storage and seating for family and guests. The surrounding cabinetry features Fabuwood Allure Fusion Dove cabinets, creating a beautiful two-tone contrast.

Both the island and perimeter countertops are finished with Emerstone Sovanna Quartz, while the backsplash features 4x4 Marazzi Zellige Neo tile in Gesso, installed in a clean straight-stack pattern.

Custom Fabuwood walnut floating shelves flank the range hood and add natural warmth to the design.

Built-in storage solutions include:

• Rev-A-Shelf pull-out trash system

• Rev-A-Shelf spice organizer

• Rev-A-Shelf heavy-duty mixer lift cabinet

These features help keep appliances organized while maximizing storage and convenience.

Appliances & Fixtures

The kitchen is equipped with a full GE Café appliance package, including:

• GE Café gas cooktop 36”

• GE Café double wall ovens with Advantium technology

• GE Café double-drawer dishwasher

• GE Café counter-depth four-door refrigerator

• GE wall-mounted designer range hood

The sink area features an Elkay Crosstown stainless steel workstation sink paired with a Delta Essa pull-down faucet and matching soap dispenser, along with a Delta wall-mounted pot filler above the cooktop.

Lighting & Electrical Upgrades

Lighting improvements enhance both function and ambiance throughout the kitchen.

Updates include:

• Glass globe pendant lights above the island

• Dimmable under-cabinet LED lighting

• Eight recessed ceiling lights

• USB outlets integrated into the island

Laundry Room Improvements

The renovation also expanded the laundry room to improve functionality.

By removing the wall between the laundry room and pantry closet, the space now includes a larger layout with a Ruvati stainless steel utility workstation sink, additional cabinetry, and a built-in bench with butcher block seating.

A stained barn-style sliding door adds warmth and character while allowing the room to be closed off when needed.

The doorway leading from the dining room to the attached garage was closed, and a new garage entry was created through the laundry room to improve the home’s daily traffic flow.

Flooring Throughout the First Floor

To unify the newly opened layout, COREtec Grande luxury vinyl plank flooring in Aleta Oak was installed throughout the kitchen, dining room, foyer, and living room, creating a warm and cohesive look across the entire main level.

The Finished Result

What was once a series of closed-off rooms is now a bright, open living space designed for connection and comfort. With improved layout, custom cabinetry, premium appliances, and warm natural materials, this renovation completely transformed how the homeowners experience their first floor.
