Couple Renovates Family Homestead in Seven Valleys, PA

Custom kitchen renovation in hanover

After years of living away from the area these empty nesters decided to move back into the wife’s homestead located on the family’s well-known local orchard. The kitchen, mudroom and den areas were dated and needed attention. After meeting with the clients, we decided on a new kitchen layout, removing the center island and instead incorporated a peninsula. Original bulkheads in the kitchen were removed and the new wall cabinetry now runs all the way to the ceiling, which provides more storage and makes the ceilings appear higher. The mudroom was revitalized with new cabinetry, flooring and a fresh coat of paint. The den was transformed by removing existing dark paneling and dark bookshelves and replaced with new cream custom bookshelves and cabinetry.

New Mannington, Iberian Hazelwood in Pecan engineered hardwood plank flooring was laid throughout the 1st floor and LVT was installed in the updated mudroom and sunroom areas off the kitchen. We installed white maple Elias Custom Cabinetry in the simple Shepherd profile in the Muslin color. The Berenson, traditional Hearthstone hardware pulls in the Verona Bronze finish conveys a vintage look. The Astoria granite countertops have a deep cream background with darker greys and chocolate toned veins. Ape Grupo- Altea 3x12 glossy backsplash tiles with a rustic edge were applied to the walls in a running bond pattern, an inlaid area above the cooktop using 6x6 hand-crafted Pecan, Artisan Stone tiles by Stone Impressions was added for a focal point. An Elkay Quartz 60/40 sink in Mocha was selected with low-divide along with an oil-rubbed bronze Kohler, Bellera pulldown single handled faucet. A coordinating oil rubbed bronze air switch button for the garbage disposal was installed on the countertop for ease of use. Dimmable LED lighting was installed under the cabinets. Three sets of glass mullion doors were added which adds interest to the kitchen while they show off collectibles and glassware. A separate designated entertainment area was created in the kitchen, complete with a hidden paneled minbar frig, wine rack and wire pull-out storage bins for spirits.

Two Quoizel Grant 8” Palladian bronze vintage Americana looking pendants with seedy glass were installed above the peninsula.

GE Profile™ Appliances were selected PFE28KBL, French-Door frig, PT7800SH GE Profile™ 30" Built-In Combination Convection Microwave/Convection Wall Oven, PDT785SBN GE Profile™ Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher with hidden controls and PP9036SJSS GE Profile™ 36" Built-In Touch Control Cooktop

We updated the mudroom off the garage with new built-in custom cabinetry for additional storage, added a long wooden bench, used as a seating area to take off shoes and boots. Vertical bead board was incorporated in the back of the seating area which adds interest to the space. Verona Bronze hooks were installed for hanging hats and coats.

The dark and drab den walls were originally covered with dark pine paneling with built-in cabinets. The paneling was removed, the walls were replastered and the walls were painted in an off-white. We updated with new custom built-ins for storage, bookshelves and included shelving with glass doors for collectibles. Vintage creamy whitewashed tin embossed panels were added to the center door panels of the lower cabinetry. The original fireplace brick façade was kept intact, to freshen it up we white washed the bricks, bringing new life to the fireplace.

Client Review: Our experience with Red Oak was first-rate. Paul and Lora offered just the right amount of valuable guidance we needed in the planning process. Steve ran an efficient job and ensured every detail was attended to. The entire team is very personable, professional and genuine, and communication throughout could not have been better. Lora even helped us in obtaining our cooktop when we were faced with further delays. We are thrilled with the transformation of our kitchen, family room and mudroom and couldn't be happier we chose Red Oak!
