Large Gourmet Kitchen Gets a Revival in York

Large gourmet kitchen gets a revival in york

These clients contacted us wanting to update their kitchen and bring it up to date incorporating modern lighter colors with state-of-the-art kitchen appliances. They also wanted to move an existing wall in the adjacent hallway of the kitchen in order to increase the size of the opening, making it more wheelchair accessible. We redesigned it by pushing back the wall thus increasing the kitchen entrance from the garage. The new kitchen has ceiling height cabinetry which makes the ceilings appear higher, allows additional storage space and makes the entire kitchen look more cohesive and high-end. The large island was reconfigured for better work flow and designed to make it more wheel chair accessible.

The existing oak flooring was reworked and feathered-in, in the areas where the old cabinetry was removed. The custom island cabinetry was stained a reddish burgundy with the perimeter cabinetry in a soft marshmallow white. The upper double stacked cabinets have glass inserts with back lighting which breaks up the large amount of cabinet space and allows the homeowner to display collectibles. Oil rubbed bronze pulls were selected for the cabinetry hardware. We selected MSI’s Calacatta Laza jumbo quartz for the countertops because of the massive size of the island. Using the jumbo size quartz allowed us to create the island without a seam running through the countertop. Calacatta Laza has dramatic large beigey grey toned veins running through the milky white background. It conveys a fresh contemporary look. Jeffrey Court’s Carrara White honed marble 3x6 field tile was selected for the backsplash, applied in a running bond pattern. A herringbone mosaic marble pictured frame was installed above the cooktop with a honed pencil border. A 33” Elkay single bowl quartz sink in griege was selected which creates a dramatic interest with the creamy white quartz. A convenient countertop air garbage disposal button was added as well.

Two modern bronze geometric open lanterned shaped pendants with four candelabra bulbs were hung above the center island. A downlight shines down from the center of the frame to illuminate the island. LED high hats were strategically placed in the ceiling and low voltage dimmable LED under cabinet lighting was installed as well.

The walls were painted with Sherwin Williams, Popular Gray SW6071. It’s a truly greige paint color that has a perfect blend of warm beiges and grays.
